There is nothing better than strolling through Palermo when you’re looking for a bar. If you do choose to venture there, you will quickly realise how this district of Buenos Aires offers an impressive and vibrant selection of places to drink, and you will not have to walk far before you are happily settled with your favourite beverage in your hand. However, for those who are seeking something a little more unique, often coined the ‘hidden-gems’ of the district, head down to one of the five bars below.
Festival
Upon arrival I thought that we were entering some sort of club, actually no, this is just the exterior of Festival, you walk through large emergency exit doors and enter a completely different world. Inside you almost feel as though you are in a festival tent as there is no solid roof, you can find loud music, low tables with candles and excellent cocktails. If you’re a gin-lover, be sure to try one of the Volumes on the menu!

Open Tue-Wed 8pm-2am, Thur 8pm-3am, Fri–Sat 9pm-5am
On Tap
If you are a big beer-fan and you want to find the best craft beer in the city, On Tap is the place to go. Supporting independent breweries all around Buenos Aires, you will find just about any beer you desire, as well as some pretty impressive hamburgers. The atmosphere is vibrant and bustling, especially on a Thursday where you will find floods of happy drinkers standing on the path outside the bar.

Open Tue-Wed 5pm-12am, Thur-Sat 6pm-1am.
Soria
A summer favourite in Palermo as this bar is great for sitting outside and enjoying drinks with friends. Soria offers a chilled-out vibe which differs from Festival if you’d like something more relaxed. Known as the place to go for an “authentic” Argentine evening, Soria attracts a flood of locals as well as tourists, with this in mind, arrive before midnight to get a seat and be prepared to not leave before 2am!

Open Tues-Thurs from 8pm, Fri-Sat from 9pm
878
Another place which is a ‘not so obvious’ bar is 878. Keep your eyes peeled for a doorman who is dressed casually and standing underneath a road sign. 878 is perfect for any mood, whether you’d like to go here for a date and enjoy the selection of tapas, or you are going with friends at the beginning of your night out and are looking for a wide variety of drinks. Go here to have one of the best rancho’s (Argentine word meaning atmosphere and good vibes) in Palermo.

Open Sun-Thurs 8pm-1am, Fri-Sat 8pm-3am
Cerveceria Nacional
Another one for the beer-lovers who would like to try something other than Quilmes or Stella Artois, this new bar offers 100 varieties from 30 artisans brands. Due to its small size, it is recommended that you arrive around 8pm to ensure you get a seat. However, if you don’t mind standing and want to try some of the best beer the city has to offer, as well as a side of delicious empanadas, head down to Cerveceria Nacional.
