The first thing you need to know about working in the Soup Kitchen is that you are cooking amongst kitchen royalty. These women know exactly what they are doing and by the end of the day they have made a group of simple ingredients into a meal to die for.
I work at the kitchen twice a week and am usually tasked with a variety of things, such as drying the dishes, shredding carrots, peeling oranges, etcetera. Regardless of my task, the one thought that never leaves my mind throughout the entirety of the day is that the kitchen smells so good. Every time it is something different but it smells and looks just as incredible; sometimes I get so caught up enjoying the aroma I unintentionally stop whatever task I am doing completely and just stand there, sniffing.
These women are truly incredible at what they do, and that is why no matter how tedious it may get sometimes to spend the whole day peeling oranges, chopping carrots, or pounding meat, I continue in good spirits because I know they are going to making something amazing out of it.
