Our Commitment To Youth Empowerment And Cooperative Culture

Our Mision

Our Mision

The Pacheco Community Center will help young people from the surrounding area learn the craft of gardening and landscaping —framed in agroecology understood as a science, a social movement and a practice—. With this, our main goal is to empower them with the skills to be able to have a job, gain confidence and grow surrounded by a communitarian way of leaving.
Our Vision

Our Vision

At the Pacheco Community Center we work toward local development and try to reach sustainability in its three dimensions: environmental, social and economic. We believe that by creating more community experiences, we empower people, youth especially, so they can build their own future and have a better life.

A Different Space in Buenos Aires

The idea of the Pacheco Community Center was born in 2014 as a synthesis and continuity of a practical and theoretical experience built by the Global Volunteer Organization for over 10 years. It stemmed from the desire to create a path to sustainable social practices in a community space that allows us resume the relationship with the land and natural space.
Sustainable practices create awareness and understanding of the social, economic and environmental problems and this space allows us to test alternative ways of consumption, the cultural exchange in human relationships and find solutions to decrease the depletion of natural resources.
The Pacheco Community Center is a multi-functional space that promotes community development in groups so that the individual can strive towards greater selfconfidence, critical awareness and social responsibility.

Who We Are

Written by

Founded in 2006, Voluntario Global was born with a mission to collaboratively address everyday challenges through education, health, and employment initiatives. Our team of volunteers operates in diverse locations, providing support in areas such as school assistance and community kitchens. As our efforts expanded, we welcomed volunteers from around the world, collectively establishing a self-management system.

In the neighborhoods we serve, a significant issue emerged – young individuals (aged 18 to 25) were being excluded from higher education due to financial constraints. This challenge inspired the inception of 'The Laundry' (2006-2008). Here, young people found not only flexible employment enabling them to pursue their studies but also a dedicated space equipped with computers and kitchens for their academic endeavors. During this historical-political period marked by Kirchnerism, cooperativism-work, and the creation of public universities, education became a tangible and achievable goal with a clear political objective.

The birth of Comunidad MILPA (2012-2014) aimed to provide ongoing training for local youth in vegetable gardening and horticulture, emphasizing agroecological principles. Simultaneously, they learned about cooperative work culture, fostering an associative, supportive, and equitable approach.

For us, cooperatives are the outcome of activism, and activism is rooted in always envisioning where we are headed (activism of the urgency - IN MOVEMENT). Over the years, Voluntario Global has evolved into a NETWORK of organizations, currently comprising 13 entities. We convene in spaces of reflection, facilitated by Comunidad MILPA, where we collectively strengthen our individual initiatives. These gatherings cultivate bonds of understanding, solidarity, and respect, all geared towards a social, cultural, and political transformation dedicated to social justice and community-based cooperative approaches."

This approach translate into intercultural learning, a critical philosophy of volunteer engagement, so rather than simply "giving" and "expecting something in return," our volunteer programs promote deeper pedagogical and existential questions that are relevant to a much wider range of situations where people cross significant differences of power and culture. Therefore, in addition to an intention to collaborate across cultures, we seek to generate a critical awareness that accompanies volunteers as they confront the difficulties that all cross-cultural exchange presents.

Voluntario Global is a non-profit organization (NGO) registered in Buenos Aires, Argentina, under number 0000 515.

Why is it important to take Spanish classes?

Many reasons:

  • When you decide to make volunteer work in other country, you are thinking to help people and also looking for a real cultural and knowledge exchange. Each one has something to give to others. You will better understand all the meanings, if you talk yourself. The translation by others put you away from your own experience. You do not need a perfect Spanish but you need some words and expressions to feel immerse and completely enjoy the experience!
  • When you learn a new language, you learn the cultural expressions. This is almost as important as the words so you can start living the culture of another country.
  • If you speak Spanish you will be able to talk with almost 500 million people worldwide. It means, you can improve your work possibilities and have more opportunity to choose where you want to work. You will be able to reach all the information and all the people without intermediaries.
  • Spanish is the second language for international communication. Increasingly, latin culture has influence around the world through art, architecture, literature, society and politics.
  • Study or volunteer abroad is the most effective and easy way to learn Spanish. The goal is a combination of Spanish classes (grammar and conversation) and living and sharing with the local people.

Where do we recommend to learn Spanish?

We have partnered with BASP Spanish School, the school with the longest trajectory in Buenos Aires. Please write to This email address is being protected from spambots.
