Our recent Communications Coordinator Tess McArthur-Dowty shares her insights into how volunteering in communications helped her professionally.

How was your experience of coming home after your time at Voluntario Global?

I actually haven't gone home yet! My role as a Communications Volunteer turned into a job - and I became the Communications Coordinator for Voluntario Global!

How do you think your experience at Voluntario Global has been useful in your work or studies since leaving Buenos Aires?

For me it directly resulted in a job and an opportunity to live longer in Buenos Aires. I imagine though when (or if!) I actually do go home it will also prove very helpful in my life back there. I am interested in a career in the media industry and Voluntario Global allowed me to gain invaluable experience across many areas of media, whilst also giving me a lot of creative freedom to follow my passions and interests. It's also just always incredible life experience to get to meet so many people from all over the world and broaden your cultural understanding.

Who would you recommend your project to?

Anyone who wants to work in the media and communications or NGO industry. University students or recent graduates looking to travel and get experience. Anyone wanting to get to know Buenos Aires beyond the main tourist attractions.

October 30th: 40 years of the return of the democracy in Argentina

From March 24th 1976, to October 30th 1983, the most sanguinary dictatorship of our history occurred in Argentina. This year, we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the return of the democracy in the middle of an elections year, plus a really complex context. We are sharing an article written by the "ECuNHi" team, a cultural space created by the Mothers and Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo and dedicated to their dissapeared sons and daughters.

Communication: is the key?

After a beautiful conversation with a volunteer (that will of course remain anonymous), our coordinator reflects about the impact of communications in the volunteer experience, and how important it is to create support and healing spaces.
