Voluntario Global Ambassador Thomas Vermeersch shares how his experience teaching English in Buenos Aires reminded him why he wanted to teach back in Belgium.

What do you do now?

Teaching Dutch and English

How was your experience of coming home after your time at Voluntario Global?

I was glad to see my friends and family again, but I really missed the South-American way of living.

How do you think your experience at Voluntario Global has been useful in your work or studies since leaving Buenos Aires?

I hadn't taught children for five months, before I went to Buenos Aires. It was a good reminder for myself as to why I wanted to become a teacher. The project allowed me to teach and help children of all ages in an informal environment. It was an amazing and very enjoyable experience that motivated to start my career back home.

Who would you recommend your project to?

Anyone who wants to explore Buenos Aires and in the meantime give a little something back to a very welcoming community.

Volunteering as a collective experience

As we always say, volunteering is a learning process. And a learning process is never isolated. Volunteering is also a collective experience signed by the relation we'll create with the communities we'll work with.
