Can you please begin by telling us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Therese, I am 26 years old and I am from Stockholm in Sweden. When I’m back at home I’m a lawyer.
What initially interested you about volunteering with Voluntario Global?
I always wanted to volunteer as it gives you a completely different perspective on life. I also really wanted to come to South America to help me further my Spanish and practice.
Can you please explain your duties as a volunteer and which project you worked on?
I am teaching English at an English institute and my job is to interact with the children and help them wherever it is needed.
What will you take away from your experience?
I have never done anything like this before, it was a completely new experience. Experiencing a different culture is the biggest thing for me.
What kind of activities have you been doing in your spare time?
I have been here for quite some time now, so I think I’ve done the majority of things to do in Buenos Aires. I love to spend a lot of time going to walking tours and guided tours, it’s just great to explore the city and wander around.
What is your favourite thing about Argentina?
I can’t quite put my finger on what it is about Argentina that is so incredible, it must be the culture!
Thank you for joining us, what are your plans next?
My last day at this project is on Thursday, then on Monday I will be leaving Buenos Aires to go to Bolivia and Peru, so I still have some travelling to do. Once I’m back in Sweden, I’ll be returning to court. Volunteering here has helped me understand more about different people and different cultures, so I am really looking forward to applying this further knowledge in the courtroom.
