New Kindergarten in Buenos Aires New Kindergarten in Buenos Aires Voluntario Global

The new community center that Voluntario Global added to its Network of Organizations is located on the outskirts of the city of Buenos Aires. It opened in March 2017 and it works with children aged from 45 days to 3 years old. Its mission is to reach more families in the neighborhood.

Today, the center is a home to more than 160 children, supported by 22 adults including teachers, kitchen staffs, and administrators running this place. Most families are from different parts of the city, and they have to travel a long distance seeking for help. There are a lot of young single mothers (“mamá adolescente”) who work as seamsters and cannot take care of their children during the day time. However, the problems that the families face here are much varied and complicated. Sometimes, the grandmothers take care of the children because mothers don’t want to take care of them; there is no adequate resources for the children at home; some kids are abused at their home so the center has to keep an eye on them. The families share their problems with the administratives, and the center works together with the families to find a better way of living.

The idea is to provide the best care for each family. The kitchen works from 7:40 a.m. to 7:45 p.m., and they provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks for the kids. Volunteers help the kindergarten teachers plan the activities for the children and keep an eye on the well-being of the children; whether they are sick or are having all the necessary nutritions. It is open from Monday to Friday, and everyone works together to complement each other’s task in case of any absence. If they find any concerns with any of the children, they work with educational psychologists to solve the problem together.

Pensar el voluntariado como una experiencia colectiva

Volunteering as a collective experience

As we always say, volunteering is a learning process. And a learning process is never isolated. Volunteering is also a collective experience signed by the relation we'll create with the communities we'll work with.
