The initiative involves the ability to proactively propose ideas or solutions and act consequently. This soft skill is highly appreciated in the professional environment, but it is also very helpful for personal growth.

One of the most important advice we give in the introductory meetings is to take the initiative. Why is it so important? When volunteering you will be getting immersed in a whole new world where everyone will be very welcoming, but that doesn't mean they can be telling you what to do all the time.
No one should be afraid to take the initiative, as long as it is done with respect. Proposing ideas or solutions is always appreciated. Projects usually make decisions together as part of the dynamic, it's how we work. In that context, when giving proposals it is important to reflect on the possibilities and resources. However, it is always better to give the initiative than to remain silent out of fear. Taking the initiative can also open new possibilities, it is to show others that something matters to you and to demonstrate your energy to do so.
Keep in mind that taking the initiative is complicated until you become more familiar with the placement, the people, and the routines. Remember to take your time. Taking initiative can be developed and volunteering as a challenging experience, it's the perfect context to do so.
