The Alimentazo in Argentina The Alimentazo in Argentina Connor Garrett

The producers of vegetables that feed the Argentine population, convened on Wednesday, July 24, an "Alimentazo".

An invented word, related to alimento (food), but also related to specific claims: healthy food for a fair price, land for small producers and not for industrial companies that damage the environment. In addition, they also claimed in favor of the prohibition of agrotoxics and the promotion of agroecological crops.

The organizations of small producers, peasants and native peoples who participated in this sale at a fair price in the main square of the City of Buenos Aires, Plaza de Mayo, demand an agrarian reform discussed and agreed to cover the claims of all, as today the law favors only of the big business who sow for export, causing irreparable damage to ecosystems and making people sick with their pesticides.

The Agrarian Forum, where small producers are represented, decided to carry out different actions throughout the year 2019 to raise public awareness about what are healthy foods and what is not. The concrete way in which these activities are carried out is the presentation of seminars and assemblies in squares of all the cities throughout the country, where specialists share their knowledge and famous chefs of Argentina cook live recipes that encourage the consumption of healthy vegetables to improve the food diet. Likewise, they carry out conferences such as the Alimentazo where they give away or sell production at a fair price.
